Blogging about the blog :)

I did like the blog in the end. I never blogged before this class and was very cautious about it throughout the semester. Normally I don't like to do assignments online because I usually forget or I find them more difficult. The one main thing that I like about the blog is I can write about what ever I want. There is no one telling you what to write or when it is due by. I also like the fact that most of the blog posts have to be short because most people won't read the long ones. I don't like to write long drawn out things so for me the shorter the better. I think though learning how to blog I am going to make my own blog and continue to post my work and I hope to receive comments that can help me make my stories better.

Writing and Workshopping vs Blogging and Publishing

I liked that from the very beginning of class our work was going to be looked at from our peers. My peers as well as my professor would give me feedback on how to possibly change, or improve my story to make it better. Throughout the semester my peers have given great advice that I have used in both of my stories. Things such as more describing then telling, using more descriptions, and using more realistic dialogue.

I felt blogging was okay, the blog assignments(that I did remember to do) made me more aware of the materials I was learning in class and helped me to know the assignments better. The only reason I think blogging is not as good as work shopping is probably because I never got feedback on blog assignments. Again though this is my fault. I feel publishing and blogging are very similar both are ways to get your work out there for others to read. I feel this is a terrifying thing to do, but I think I'm going to try to create my own blog. 

POV exercise

The Point Of View exercise was very confusing at first because I was unsure of the different point of views. I wasn't sure between the Third person close and the third person omniscient. I did know that my story was in third person omniscient.

It was very difficult to change my story into different views. the only view that was easy was dialogue and third person close(once I found out what it meant.) To change my story from third to first person was difficult. First person reliable was not to hard, but when I had to make my reliable character unreliable it was extremely difficult. I had to switch around the whole main character to make her fit into the point of view.

The exercise did help me though. It taught me how to write in different points of view and I also learned or re-learned what the different types of point of view's are called.

The Pink Institution

     The pink institution by Selah Saterstrom, was an interesting read to say the least. At first when I opened the book I did not know what to expect. I continued to read the book, and I definitely did not expect what I did read.

     The way that the first stories are written in the book, are confusing and to me dramatic. I am not sure if they are more important or less important in the way that they are spaced out. Some lines have several words while others have one. Throughout the book the words and phrases start to become sentences and paragraphs and it makes it easier to read.

     The book is weird and full of horrible things about a family with many generations, and how they raised their children in the abuse, and chaos of the family. The family is not your typical family and can be seen as dysfunctional. There are a lot of characters and they get hard to follow, however I found the book to be entertaining, even if it is dark and twisted.
    

Rumpus.net Blog

    
      Rumpus.net has a lot of interesting articles and stories to read about. It has everything from essays, reviews of books, movies, television shows and comics. This website is based in pop culture, whatever people are into Rumpus has it. The writers express themselves very well on this site. They are able to be who they are and write what they think is important or funny and that will catch a
readers attention. One of the columns I came across was called Funny Women. I chose this column because I thought it was a clever way to show that women are hilarious in what they do. The one story that caught my attention was called About our impending nuptials.

     This article is about a women telling a catering company her plans for her wedding and to see if she can have them cater her wedding. The only issue is everything is completely crazy. the bride has no idea what she wants exactly, there is no venue yet, and she is obviously playing a role of one of those crazy obsessed brides, Bridezillas. She is going into details on how she has three pinterests pages dedicating to just what kind of toe nail polish she is going to wear. I think that it is hilarious at what this columnist has written because it shows the insanity of who a women turns into planning her wedding.

Introduction to Fiction

This novel hasn't really inspired me, but it is my guilty pleasure. My guilty pleasure are the Twilight Saga novels. One of the conversations I like is between Edward and Bella

     "Isabella Marie Swan," he whispered, the strangest expression crossing his face. He almost looked mad. "Do you believe that I asked the Volturi to kill me because I felt guilty?"
    
       I could feel the blank incomprehension on my face, "Didn't you?
      "Feel guilty? Intensely so. More than you can comprehend."
       "Then. . . what are you saying? I don't understand."

      "Bella I went to the Volturi because I though you were dead," he said, voice soft, eyes fierce. "Even if I'd had no hand in your death"-he shuddered as he whispered the last word-"even if it wasn't my fault, I would have gone to Italy. Obviously, I should have been more careful- I should have spoken to Alice directly, rather than accepting it secondhand from Rosalie. But, really, what was I supposed to think when the boy said Charlie was at the funeral? What are the odds?
      "The odds. . .," he muttered then, distracted. His voice was so low I wasn't sure I heard it right. "The odds are always stacked against us. Mistake after mistake. I'll never criticize Romeo again."

"But I still don't understand," I said. "That's my whole point. So what?"
"Excuse me?"
"So what if I was dead?"
He stared at me dubiously for a long moment before answering."Don't you remember anything I told you before?"
The dialogue continues but I like this because it shows truly how Bella feels and how she is starting to become her own person and not entirely dependent on Edward
